What is Melty?
Melty is a desktop app built by Stella Montis Inc., a Y Combinator-backed team, and it is best understood as a launcher for mashups: mods that fuse two games into one. In a mashup you might play Skyrim as a Minecraft player, craft portals inside another game’s world, or carry one game’s weapons into another’s map. The app handles the messy part — locating your installs, downloading the mashup, patching files, and launching the result — so you only press Play.
Uninstalling a mashup restores your original game files, which is what separates Melty from hand-editing installs: your games are never permanently changed.
How a Melty mashup works
- You own both games. Mashups modify installed copies, so both titles must be legitimately installed on your PC.
- Press Play. Melty downloads the mashup, installs and configures everything required, and launches the combined game.
- Play together from one link. Supported mashups include an invite link you can keep private, share with friends, or make public.
- Create your own with AI. You hand Melty’s instructions and your ideas to an AI coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex; the agent builds the mashup and can publish it for other players.

Is Melty free? What’s the catch?
There is no subscription: Melty is free, and the catch is simply that you must own the games involved. If a mashup needs a game missing from your library, Melty directs you to its store. Uploads are screened for dangerous files, and mashup pages include a report button — see our full safety review.

Yes. Melty itself is entirely free. You do need legitimate copies of the games you want to mash; if you are missing one, Melty points you to its store.
Do I need to own the games to play a mashup?
