Is Melty free to download?
Yes — the app is entirely free with no subscription. You still need to own the games you mash.
Melty is a free Windows app, and the only safe place to get it is the official site: melty.gg/download. This page explains what to expect from the download and install, and which “Melty download” links to avoid.
Melty does not modify your games on install. It sits beside them as a launcher: when you press Play on a mashup, it downloads that mashup, patches what it needs, and launches the combined game. Uninstalling a mashup restores your original files — nothing permanent happens until you choose it.
After signing in, Melty scans your PC for installed games and builds your “My games” list — the pool that Create and Play draw from. Three things are worth doing before your first mashup:
Melty updates itself through the app, and mashups update the same way — you always press Play on the latest version. Removing a mashup restores your original game files, and removing the Melty app itself does not touch your games: installs are reversible at both levels, which is the main safety difference from hand-editing game folders.

No. Melty is Windows-only for now. Anything advertising a Mac Melty build is not the official app.
The launcher itself is small; the heavier downloads are the mashups you choose to install, and those are handled inside the app with one click.
Melty works with installed PC games it can detect, and most store copies qualify once they are installed and launched at least once. What does not work: subscription-catalog versions that block file access, or cloud-only streams — mashups patch local files, so the game must exist on disk.
New launchers that patch game files sometimes trip heuristic warnings. The safe response is not to whitelist blindly: re-download from melty.gg, compare what you received against the file the official page lists, and only proceed from that official source. If a copy from anywhere else flags your antivirus, that is the warning working.
Yes — install on each Windows PC you play on. Your published mashups live in your My mashups list, so other players (and your other machines) can play them once released.
